Care home residents paid tribute those fallen in war.

Cecil Hearne, 94, a resident at Jewish Care’s Lady Sarah Cohen House in Colney Hatch Lane, Friern Barnet, laid a wreath at the Edgware cenotaph yesterday.

Mr Hearne served 19 years in the Royal Navy and 10 years in the US Navy. He eventually became captain of the USS Saratoga, a supercarrier named after the 1920’s aircraft carrier that was scuttled in 1946.

Another man attending the ceremony was former RAF serviceman Monty Leslar, who lives at Jewish Care’s Michael Sobell Community Centre in Golders Green.

He said “I have always been proud of my service to my country.

“I often show photos from my time in the RAF with my children and grandchildren and it was such an important time for me.”
