Keen for an excuse to nip out for a pint? Drinkers can nominate the best decorated pub this Christmas.

The annual competition – sponsored by the St Albans Review – is intended to encourage the City’s pubs to bring an extra sparkle to St Albans’ during the Christmas period.

A judging panel will visit nominated pubs to see first-hand what efforts they have made to mark the festive season.

They will assess the decorations, customer service, drinks selection and general atmosphere before deciding the winner.

In particular, they will be looking for something that sets the pub apart from the others, such as an innovative idea or the personal touch.

The winners will get a certificate and a glass trophy that they can show off to customers.

Nominations should be sent by Monday,December 10 to economicdevelopment@stalbans.gov.uk

Last year’s winners was the Hare and Hounds, Sopwell Lane, with the Rose and Crown, St Michael’s Village, triumphing in 2016.

Cllr Salih Gaygusuz, who is responsible for business and the community, will be one of the judges as will Cllr Roma Mills.

Cllr Gaygusuz said: “This is a fantastic way of recognising the pubs which add some excitement to the Christmas atmosphere.

“St Albans is a wonderful place to be during the festive season and we want to encourage our local businesses with their efforts to make it extra special.”

Cllr Mills said: “Pubs put in a terrific effort at Christmas to make St Albans a more attractive place for residents and visitors.

“This contest is a fun way to reward all that hard work and is a well-established part of the city’s Christmas programme.”
