Harrow’s new fire chief said he wants the public to play its part when it comes to ensuring everyone in the borough is safe.

Alan Taylor, London Fire Brigade borough commander for Harrow, received a warm welcome from those who attended a public safety meeting on November 8.

He said he is looking forward to settling in to his new role – having previously worked in Hounslow and Haringey – and explained that looking out for one another is key to avoiding serious incidents.

“I want to ask you all for your help,” he told the audience at Harrow Civic Centre.

“I’m passionate about making sure that everyone in Harrow gets the right protection and advice to make sure they can stay safe and maintain their lifestyles.”

He said it was particularly important for those who are able to react quickly to fires to pass on their knowledge to and take extra care of those who are vulnerable.

“I can’t do everything alone – I need your help,” he said. “If you know of anyone who could benefit from our advice, then please refer them to us.”

He added that the best way to find or ask for advice and information is on the London Fire Brigade website.
