Roadworks on a busy road have left angry drivers facing 70-minute delays.

Work being carried out near the pedestal roundabout near West Wycombe has frustrated drivers - and even left one 40 minutes late for a meeting to arrange his mother's funeral.

Martin Smith said: "Contractors seem to have no regard for the stress and inconvenience which they cause on a daily basis by putting traffic controls up earlier than required and taking them down late.

"Dads miss kissing their kids good night, parents miss nativity plays, yoga sessions, medical appointments - you name it, and it is so unnecessary."

Another driver said the roadworks were a "shambles".

He told the Bucks Free Press: "On Wednesday night, it took me 70 minutes to get from Sainsbury's in High Wycombe to the pedestal junction. It usually takes me 10 minutes. It is just not good enough. It is causing chaos for everyone.

"There are no workmen there. And there are big electronic signs warning people of delays with other roadworks, but nothing about these ones."

Transport for Bucks said the works are being carried out to repair a Vodafone cover that was in need of "emergency repair".

They said: "We are aware of hour-long delays northbound and delays of at least 35 minutes southbound due to temporary lights. Please avoid the area if possible."
