The head teacher of a secondary school will call time on his career in a year's time.

Keith Douglas will step down from his role as head teacher at Rickmansworth School in Croxley Green in December 2019.

Mr Douglas has led two schools in the area for the last 13 years, having moved from head at Bushey Meads to Rickmansworth School.

He has provided a long notice period to allow the government body time to find a replacement.

In a letter to parents and guardians, Mr Douglas said: "During these years I have been very fortunate to work with some wonderful people, brilliant teachers and highly talented students, and none more so than here at Rickmansworth School. It has been a privilege to lead such an amazing school and oversee the progress the school has made.

"I have provided a long notice period, so the governing body have ample time in which to recruit the future head teacher. I can assure you that our focus will remain on student progress and their wider development during this period.

"We also have future plans for the school and will provide further updates next year. I know a change in the head teacher can be unsettling, but the governing body and I remain committed to providing the best education for our young people and to the continued improvement in the school.

"I would like to thank you for the support you have given to me and the school during my time here. It has been an honour to be the Headteacher of this excellent school and I look forward to its continued success in the future."
