A young social worker warned doctors she felt suicidal just hours before she took her own life.
Charlotte Faux, who worked with teenagers with eating disorders, wrote a moving letter explaining
her wish to end her life.
The 26-year-old delivered a letter to a nurse a week after she had tried to kill herself on the ward
in Edgware Community Hospital in March 2014.
In it she explained how keeping herself alive every day was a “constant battle.”
Barnet, Enfield and Haringey Mental Health NHS Trust accepted they should not have allowed
Charlotte to leave the hospital unescorted.
AN off-duty police officer jumped into an icy lake to save a dog’s life.
PC Jake Pike was in the Harvester restaurant in Potters Bar at around 3.30pm when he saw a dog run
and fall into the icy lake in Oakmere Park.
PC Pike took off his shoes and coat and got into the lake, scooping up the dog and bringing her to safety.
He said: “Instinct kicked in and I thought I was the best person to go in - The lake was absolutely freezing.”
A public toilet was sold for £102,000 and a worn-out old shed fetched £161,000 at a property auction.
It is believed the toilet, in Underhill, and the shed, at Bohun Grove, East Barnet, were snapped up by property developers.
Christopher McHugh, of auctioneers McHugh & Co, said: “Sites can be very difficult to value so sometimes we put them to auction - I’ve been doing auctions for 35 years and I can’t tell you how many garages I’ve sold.”
A row has broken out in the Barnet Tory party after a Conservative association was accused of anti-Christian, anti-family and misogynistic attitudes by a deselected councillor.
Speaking at a meeting of the council’s General Functions Committee this week, Cllr Joan Scannell said the attitudes were “rife” at Hendon Conservative Association.
A disgruntled arsonist tried to burn down her former work - place and superglued the locks after getting fired.
Rose Marie Fenwick, 64, of Mount Field Road, was identified by her “distinctive walking style” after CCTV footage was released to the press.
She has been jailed for 20 months for setting fire to the Estates & Management building in Regents Par k Road, Finchley Central, where she worked for six years.
