A “cruel” woman who left her ex with permanent scarring to his face after she threw a noxious substance over him has been jailed.

Julie Myers, 57, of Railway Terrace, Kings Langley, pleaded guilty to attacking her ex-boyfriend in a pub car park in Sarratt on July 2 last year.

She threw what is believed to be a mix of domestic drain cleaner and water over the victim’s face following a row over money.

Myers met her ex at the Cricketers pub after they agreed to come to a settlement over money she owed him. She had an envelope with her but it was full of tissues rather than cash.

As the pair sat in Myers’ car, the discussion got heated and Myers picked up a bottle and threw the contents of it into her ex-boyfriend’s face, causing it to sting.

The attack happened in the car park of The Cricketers, Sarratt, pictured.

He got out of the car and into his own, driving to a friend’s home who took him to hospital. Police were then called.

Myers, who worked as a cleaner, was arrested on suspicion of GBH and later charged with the offence and being in possession of an offensive weapon – the liquid inside the bottle.

She pleaded guilty at the earliest opportunity, in September, and at St Albans Crown Court today, she was jailed for a total of nine years.

Judge Philip Grey described Myers’ actions as “cruel” and “premeditated”.

PC Alex Akers, from Hertfordshire Constabulary’s domestic abuse investigation and safeguarding unit, said: “The victim in this case has been left with permanent scarring to his face as a result of the action of Myers.

"The sentence passed by Judge Grey clearly reflects the seriousness of the assault and I would urge anyone suffering from domestic abuse to contact police as we have specially trained officers who will deal with your case sensitively and can provide you with support.”
