Police say they will fully investigate a report that an officer turned up to a woman’s house at 1.30am to tick her off about her parking.

Sarah Lester said she was “terrified” when she heard a loud knocking at her home in Borehamwood on February 9 – only to find out it was a police officer who had to come to deal with the way she had parked in School Lane, Bushey earlier that evening.

Ms Lester admits she had been parked partially on the pavement but says it was an “abuse of power” for the officer to wake her up in the middle of the night.

Hertfordshire Constabulary has provided the following update.

A spokeswoman said: “Officers have been in touch with the lady regarding her concerns. A sergeant is due to speak with the lady again today (Tuesday) to arrange for a formal complaint to be submitted to our Professional Standards Department.

“The matter will be thoroughly and fully investigated and, as part of this process, the officer involved will be spoken to. We will update the lady in due course.

“Due to the pending investigation it would be inappropriate for us to comment any further at this stage.”
