Sentencing of a woman who used a hire car to ram shoppers in a supermarket car park was again postponed today.

Lucy Turner, 32, of Organ Hall Road, Borehamwood was due to be sentenced at St Albans Crown Court at 10am this morning - but the hearing was postponed until Monday because she did not have legal representation.

Ms Turner has pleaded guilty to causing serious injury by dangerous driving in the Rickmansworth Tesco car park just before Christmas last year. A woman suffered a fractured vertebrae as a result.

This is the second time in as many weeks her committal for sentence has been postponed.

Last Friday’s adjournment was due to an administrative error at HMP Peterborough where Ms Turner is on remand.

The defendant appeared this morning via video link and told the court she had not spoken to her solicitor who should have been there to give her legal advice.

She said: “I haven’t spoken to any legal team. When I was last in court I sent for legal aid and was told they would be in contact and they haven’t been.

“I don’t think it’s fair, I haven’t had any representation before sentencing.”

Judge C Wigin asked Ms Turner to clarify if she had spoken to any barristers.

“No,” she said, “I don’t even know who they are.”

The defendant pleaded guilty to the following offences at Hatfield Remand Court on February 16:

• Attempted theft (from Tesco in Rickmansworth)

• Causing serious injury by dangerous driving

• Use of a motor vehicle on a road/public place without third party insurance

• Driving whilst disqualified

• Being the driver of a vehicle that failed to stop after a collision

• Being the driver of a vehicle that failed to stop after a collision and failing to report the collision

She was also charged in connection with two separate incidents: a theft from Tesco in Pinner on December 23 and a theft from the Co-op in Borehamwood on December 24.

Judge C Wigin ordered a barrister present in court this morning to represent Ms Turner when she is produced at St Albans Crown Court again on Monday (March 18).

Adding: "I would like to convey the court's feelings about this, it isn't the first time it has happened."
