***Update: Elderly woman dies in hospital after van collision***

An elderly woman has been taken to hospital after she was involved in a collision with a van at around lunchtime today.

Her condition is thought to be life-threatening and police are appealing for witnesses following the incident in Regent Street, Watford.

Police were called at 12.45pm to the junction of Leavesden Road.

The vehicle involved was a small Fiat van.

A cordon was in place and officers have been at the scene investigating. The van was taken away by a recovery truck.

The woman's injuries have been described as 'serious' and her family is aware of what has happened.

Leavesden Road was closed for the afternoon and rush hour causing gridlock on nearby roads.

All road closures have been lifted and traffic is returning to normal.

Sergeant James Wood, from the Bedfordshire, Cambridgeshire and Hertfordshire Road Policing Unit, said: “I am appealing for anyone who witnessed the collision, or events leading up to it, to please get in touch. I am particularly keen to hear from anyone who may have captured dash cam footage, as this could assist our investigation.”
