Twenty four garages could be demolished and turned into a block of 11 flats.
An application has been submitted to redevelop the Hertsmere Borough Council owned brownfield site in Eldon Avenue, Borehamwood.
The proposal is for a three-storey building which will fit 11 two-bedroom apartments – and the plans will meet the 35 per cent affordable housing requirement (four homes).
The council says that 16 of the 24 garages are currently occupied. It says under the terms of a tenancy agreement, Hertsmere are required to serve one months’ notice to bring garage tenancies to an end. If a site is redeveloped, then a minimum of three months’ notice is required.
The garage site currently
The council says current garage tenants will be offered alternative sites close by.
There is provision for 11 parking spaces.
The council says this proposal is a “sustainable approach to regenerating this garage site, bringing it back into use and increasing the local housing stock” in a predominantly residential area.
