A house which was linked to anti-social behaviour and suspected drug dealing has been shut down for three months.

Hertfordshire Constabulary has secured a closure order on a property in Hackney Close, off Farriers Way, Borehamwood.

The home was being investigated following complaints from neighbours about possible criminal activity at the address.

Some of the complaints related to suspected drug dealing and drug use.

At St Albans Magistrates’ Court on Wednesday, a judge was satisfied that the necessary criteria had been met for a closure order.

The court was in agreement that the property and people who visit it are likely to be engaged in criminal behaviour and cause a serious nuisance to the public.

Police worked alongside Clarion Housing to gather evidence to shut the home down temporarily.

The closure order allows the sole occupant of the home to stay but no one is allowed to visit for the next three months.

Community Safety Sergeant Ricki Vaughan, said: “Behind the scenes we are working closely with partner agencies to tackle drug related anti-social behaviour and crime. Closure orders are just one of the many tools we can use if people are making lives a misery for those around them.

“If we receive regular reports of ASB linked to an address we will not hesitate to use this legislation in future cases if we believe it will help improve the quality of life for our local communities.

“In this case the occupant was fortunate in that we did not seek to have them excluded from the address. I would urge local residents to please continue to report anything of concern to us via the non-emergency number 101 and if you witness a crime or ASB in progress dial 999.”
