Labour has selected its Parliamentary candidate for Finchley and Golders Green.

Cllr Sara Conway was chosen at a selection meeting attended by 300 people on Sunday, where she beat rival candidates teacher Maryam Asaria, transport expert Christian Wolmar and social worker Roly Hunter.

A Labour councillor and Barnet Labour’s lead on communities and libraries, she says she will campaign for a People’s Vote on Brexit and challenge current Tory MP Mike Freer on austerity and cuts.

She said she was delighted to be chosen in her home constituency and aims to lead Labour in the campaign to unseat Mr Freer, who holds the marginal seat with a majority of 1,657.

Sara, who is married with three children, said: "I have real understanding of our local communities from regular campaigning in Finchley and Golders Green over the past two years.

"I will be a strong voice on Brexit and anti-Semitism, which are the two key issues which are of most concern to members and residents.

"I fought for the motion for a second referendum at our party conference.

"On anti-Semitism I have been a consistent and solid voice for dialogue, empathy and education, but also for a party where we are clear that it is not acceptable. I will never be afraid to have the tough conversations that need to be had."
