The woman who won a town’s Easter bonnet-making competition over 50 years proudly displayed her design over the weekend.
Clara Springham, a resident at Barchester Ashlar House Care Home, near St Margaret’s Hospital, Epping, was crowned the winner of Matching Tye Village Hall’s competition during the 1960’s.
The bright yellow and white design shows Ms Springham showcasing flowers resembling daisies and a chick hand-drawn on the side.
The pensioner was also pictured sporting other brightly decorated bonnets made by visitors to the care home over the bank holiday .
Carers and residents celebrated the Easter holidays by also hosting their own hat-making competition with family members with live entertainment and hot cross buns served.
Rita Green, head of lifestyle activities at Barchester Ahshlar House Care Home said: We only found out about Clara’s winning bonnet over the weekend. She gets involved in a lot of the activities put on here and is always very intrigued and very hands.
“She loves wearing hats and anything to do with fashion and is always well-dressed.”
