Drivers faced delays this morning after a pile of rubbish littered a busy motorway.
Traffic was stopped on the M1 northbound near Watford during the morning rush hour and a CCTV camera showed litter and rubble strewn across the carriageway and up the embankment.
Traffic was stopped initially to clear some of the larger rubbish before lanes were reopened and a speed limit of 40mph was put in place with some debris still lying around.
The source of all the rubbish is unknown at this stage.
Meanwhile, there was trouble on the southbound side of the carriageway too.
A vehicle broke down in lane 3 between Watford and j4 at around 9am. All traffic was stopped to safely tow the stranded vehicle to the hard shoulder.

All delays have cleared and traffic has returned to normal.
