The owners of a reservoir are expected to submit a planning application soon to redevelop an eastern bank of a lake.

Liberty Lake Leisure Ltd wants to knock down existing buildings and create boat storage, a hub, management officers, toilets, and catering facilities at Aldenham Reservoir, at Aldenham County Park.

Currently home to Aldenham Sailing Club and Aldenham Angling Club, Liberty says its proposals will provide "enhanced facilities" for the community and "secure the future management" of the wider reservoir at the park.

The owners are inviting people to have their say and public consultations are taking place today and tomorrow in Elstree.

Hertsmere MP Oliver Dowden says he visited the site last Friday. He says people have contacted him with concerns about the proposal and said it is "vitally important" that the reservoir’s "wonderful open spaces"are retained and the "sailing club has a future".

He says he has been in touch with Hertsmere Borough Council and Liberty Lake Leisure to raise concerns made and press for clarification of their plans for the future of the reservoir and the club.

In 2016, Liberty was refused an application to build 150 homes on green belt land next to the reservoir.

The consultation is taking place at The Fishery, Watford Road, Elstree, WD6 3BE, until 6pm today and from 10am-5pm tomorrow (Saturday).
