Work is about to begin on an essential project to replace ageing gas mains near popular woodland.
Temporary traffic lights will be in place in Grove Mill Lane, on the edge of Watford, from today until July 29, before a full road closure is put in place between July 30 and August 12.
The project will also involve working along a bridal way in Whippendell Wood, but access will be maintained for dog-walkers and horse riders.
Cadent who operate and maintain the UK’s largest gas network, will replace the ageing gas mains with tough new pipes which will help ensure safe and reliable local gas supplies for decades to come.
The company says it will aim to complete the work as promptly as possible. Shops and businesses along Grove Mill Lane will remain open as usual throughout the scheme and gas supplies will also be maintained.
Cadent authorising engineer Dilbir Chana said: “The existing gas mains have served the area well for many years but the time has come to replace them to help ensure the local community keep on enjoying safe and reliable gas supplies for cooking and heating.”
