A newly selected Liberal Democrat prospective parliamentary candidate has expressed that people have “lost sight” of the vision behind the founding of the European Union.

Dr Geoffrey Seeff has been selected as the Liberal Democrat prospective candidate for the Chingford and Woodford Green constituency after being a long-time Lib Dem campaigner and a candidate in the constituency in 1997 and 2010.

Dr Seeff is a chartered accountant from Woodford with a doctorate for his research in the field of corporate social responsibility. He was the convener for Redbridge SDP in 1981 and has been active in the party since.

The Woodford resident spoke to the Lib Dem members in Redbridge and Waltham Forest after his selection expressing his delight to lead the local efforts in the battle against Brexit.

Dr Seeff said: “The nation has been polarised and Parliament paralysed since the ill-conceived and mismanaged referendum took place.

“Sadly, in the ensuing debate on the outcome, people have lost sight of the vision and values that inspired the founding of the European Union – raising the standard of living of the citizens and of all member states and eliminating the prospect of war beneath them.”

Brexit is not the only political concern which Dr Seeff recognises, as he acknowledges that the Lib Dems need to promote distinctive polices on other matters including climate change, preventative medicine and constitutional reform.
