Primary schoolchildren are being invited to attend a week of camping celebrating the multicultural diversity in Borehamwood.

Faith leaders from several communities in Elstree & Borehamwood have come together to provide a summer camping experience for children aged between 5-11.

Camp Unity will provide overnight stays, three meals per day, plus crafts and physical activities. It will be mostly outdoor but one of the main aims of the camp is for children to mingle with others from a different background.

The campsite is described as a haven of greenery with its own little forest, wild rabbits, birds, space for crackly bonfires and plenty of activities to keep the young campers busy.

Among the organisers are Father Dominic McKenna of the Catholic Parishes, Rumbi Hitchcock from the St John Apostolic Church, Kashif Merchant of the Borehamwood Islamic community, former Town Mayor Victor Eni and Rabbi Jeff Berger from the Jewish community.

Local councillors have been able to fund some of the scheme.

The camp will cost £20.

It will take place between August 26 and August 30.

Children are invited to stay for the duration or a day or so.

The food provided will be vegetarian and nut-free.
