A team of volunteers spent a day clearing up huge mounds of rubbish along the Grand Union Canal.
Members of Abbots Langley Transition Town, a group made of residents who aim to make a positive difference to the village, visited the canal on August 15 with litter pickers and bags to clean up the countryside.
Chairman of the group Mary Chabrel said: "We met at the Kings Head pub in Hunton Bridge for a mammoth litter pick. Rubbish dumped in our countryside is a real danger to our wildlife. Much of the material can and should be recycled to reduce our impact on the planet.
"We are very grateful to all the volunteers who came along and made a difference. We are enjoyed our well deserved drink afterwards. Next time, people can join us. Keep up to date on our Facebook page 'Abbots in Transition'."
