Memories of glorious Hornets matches from the past are one of the tools being used to help people with dementia.
Watford FC's Community Sports and Education Trust this week launched its Golden Memories programme, aimed at those with a mild to moderate dementia diagnosis.
The trust has worked alongside Watford Museum and University of Hertfordshire on the project, which uses memorabilia and magic moments to stimulate the senses and evoke personal memories.
Funded by the Premier League and Professional Footballers Association through the PL PFA Community Fund, it encourages physical activity through chair exercises and provides a space for support, respite and workshops for carers.
There are an estimated 835,000 people in the UK who have dementia, including around 40,000 aged 65 or below.
Based in the Sensory Room at Vicarage Road Stadium, Golden Memories will be running an initial 12-week and 18-week course of sessions with the possibility of expanding in to a community group in the future.
These initial sessions will run from now until December 2019 and again in March 2020 within year one of the programme, with the possibility of going into a second year and the 2020/21 season.
