A museum founder who died three years ago has been honoured.

Volunteers at Bushey Museum and Art Gallery have named one of its galleries in memory of Anne Blessley, who died aged 92.

Anne was instrumental in forming the museum, becoming its art curator in the 1980's.

Watford Observer:

Anne Blessley died in 2016 aged 92

She was an expert on Sir Hubert von Herkomer, German-born British artist.

Much of Herkomer's work is on display at the museum.

In 1985 she started the Friends of Bushey Museum, and in 2005 she was elected President of the Friends.

To recognise Anne's commitment to the museum, volunteers decided to name a gallery in her honour.

Anne's daughter Gillian travelled over from the USA to officially open the Anne Blessley Gallery.

Gillian said: "I was very honoured and delighted to attend. To see my mother's commitment to the museum recognised in this way it an honour."

Gillian later presented the museum trust with a donation in memory of her mother.
