Labour plan 27,000 new homes for the borough. 4,000 of these new homes are planned to be in Chingford, Highams Park and Woodford Green.

This will mostly be focused on Highams Park town centre (450 new homes), North Chingford (300), South Chingford (200) and at Sewardstone Road (450).

The draft plan also suggests 900 additional homes could be build adjacent to the North Circular Road and suggests this could come in part from redeveloping the Chingford Hall Estate.

Local Conservatives recognise that we need new homes for local people, but the council’s target is 3,300 homes higher than that set for it by the Mayor of London. We think it should be reduced to the level set by the Mayor.

We also want to see strong protection for the character of Chingford, Highams Park and Woodford Green, with height limits to stop the sort of tower block development that is happening in Walthamstow and Leyton. We also think parking needs to be maintained to support our local high streets and provided for new homes and that new school places and GP facilities need to be in place before development is occupied.

Finally, so it is local people who benefit when development does happen, we want new, affordable homes to be offered first to people with a strong local connection.
