A nine-year-old boy has taken home the gold medal in a national karate competition.
Aaron Johnson-Campbell, a year five pupil at Avon House Preparatory School in Woodford, became a British gold medallist in the boys kumite 7-9 years over 25kg category.
Kumite is a point-scoring form of karate sparring inside of a ringed area similar to a boxing ring.
Aaron travelled to Scotland to compete in the 2019 British Karate Foundation International Open Championships and after four extremely competitive matches, against high-level competition, came through to successfully be crowned champion.
A spokesperson for Avon House school said: “This was a well-deserved win for Aaron after all the intense training that he put in and his school cannot wait to see the fantastic achievements he will accomplish in the future.”
