With the average cost for private boarding schools being around £32,259, which private schools are the best value for money in the UK?

Research from Exam Paper Plus, an online resource for independent and grammar school exams, has analysed the top 100 private schools in the UK based on their GCSE results, and listed a separate top-ten list of private schools based on their value of GCSE results and how much is charged per year.

On average private day school costs £14,102 per year and private boarding schools for £32,259 per year.

Among north and east London, there were several private schools recognised with top 100 grades. The North London Collegiate School (NLCS) in Edgware and nearby Stanmore ranked sixth on the list.

Haberdashers’ Aske’s Boys’ School, Elstree, also ranked highly with it being listed as thirteenth on the list.

Other schools listed in the list include, Merchant Taylors School, Northwood at 42 on the list; Channing School for Girls, Highgate, was 48 on the list; St Albans High School for Girls was ranked at 49.

Harrow School was ranked 54 in the top schools list; St Albans School was 61 on the list.

Two Northwood schools including St Helen’s Girl School and Palmers Green High School were also listed as well as Chigwell School.

Schools across the UK were also given a separate top-ten list on the cheapest schools with best value and over a 90 per cent A to A* rate.

1. Manchester Grammar School - £12,570 per year

The school located in Old Hall Lane, was recognised as the private school with most value in the UK. With the annual costs being cheaper than the average costs, the school has an impressive A-A* rating of 90.93 per cent.

2. King Edward VI High School for Girls - £12,888 per year

In Edgbaston Park Road, Birmingham, this independent secondary school was rated the second school with most value in the UK. It has an A-A* rating of 92.75 per cent, which is slightly higher than Manchester Grammar School.

3. Guildford High School- £17,214 per year

This independent day school for girls in London Road, Guildford, has an even higher A-A* rating than the first two schools listed, with 97.53 per cent. Its price of course is somewhat higher than the average UK private day school.

4. Perse Upper School - £17,322 year.

Perse Upper School, in Hills Road, Cambridge, has an A-A* rating of 94.18 per cent. It is known as Cambridge’s oldest surviving secondary school.

5. City of London School- £17,901 per year

The London-based boys’ school next to the Millennium Bridge, has an A-A* rating of 90.8 per cent.

6. James Allen’s Girls’ School - £17,991 per year

In Dulwich, this London school has an A-A* rating of 92.4 per cent and is the sister school of Dulwich College and Alleyn’s.

7. City of London School for Girls - £18,384 per year

In Barbican, London, and partnered with the City of London School, this school has an A-A* rating of 95.61 per cent.

8. Haberdashers’ Aske’s School for Girls - £18,393 per year

The school based in Aldenham Road, Elstree was founded in 1875 and neighbours the Haberdashers’ Aske’s Boys’ School. It has an A-A* rating of 94.31 per cent.

9. Magdalen College School - £18,477 per year

In Oxford, the school for boys aged seven to eighteen and for girls in the Sixth Form has an A-A* rating of 95.15 per cent. It was founded around 1490.

10. Notting Hill and Ealing High School - £18,561 per year

The independent school for girls based in Ealing was ranked tenth on the list, with an A-A* rating of 91.71 per cent.
