An MP’s constituency office has been vandalised with graffiti.

Iain Duncan Smith, Conservative MP for Chingford and Woodford Green, found his offices in Station Road, Chingford, had been vandalised when he arrived for work this morning.

The former Tory leader, who has held the seat since 1992, said: “This is not acceptable.

“It has happened previously during campaigning for the local elections and so sadly it isn’t the first time that our opponents have caused criminal damage to our office with abusive graffiti.

“Around the country, many of my Conservative colleagues have, like me, received death threats and in the Chingford and Woodford Green constituency, the majority of our local party workers – many of whom are volunteers – are regularly subjected to intimidation.”

The MP discovered the graffiti this morning.

A Met Police spokesperson said: “Police were called at 9am on Monday, November 25, to graffiti on premises in Station Road, E4.

“Officers from the North East BCU are investigating.

“There has been no arrest.”

On December 12, the country will head to the polls and Chingford and Woodford Green is expected to be tightly contested between Labour and the Tories.

Labour’s Faiza Shaheen will look to overcome Duncan Smith’s 2017 majority of 2,438 votes, boosted by the absence of a Green Party candidate this general election.

They are contested by Liberal Democrat Geoff Seeff.

Mr Duncan Smith added: “Political campaigning is an essential part of the democratic process and all opposition candidates must condemn such intimidation and criminal behaviour.

“I have news for these democracy-hating thugs: this will never stop us from campaigning and delivering a Conservative majority government.”
