A provisional trial date has been set for the man charged with the murder of schoolboy Harley Watson killed in a hit and run.

Terence Glover, 51, of Newmans Lane, Loughton, appeared via video link at Chelmsford Crown Court wearing a green and yellow tracksuit today (Monday, December 6) at around 10.15am.

The defendant remained seated during the nine-minute hearing from Chelmsford Prison, where he is remanded in custody.

Mr Glover has also been charged with the attempted murder of 10 others injured in the collision and one count for dangerous driving a Ford Ka.

He was not asked for pleas during the hearing, and a formal plea hearing was set for Friday, January 31, 2020 at Chelmsford Crown Court.

A provisional date was set at the preliminary hearing for June 1, 2020.

No other charges were made.

Mr Glover will remain remanded in custody and is due to appear in court again on Friday, January 24, 2020.

Harley Watson, from Loughton, died in hospital from his injuries after being struck outside Debden Park High School, on Willingale Road, Loughton, shortly before 3.20pm on Monday, December 2.

His family paid tribute earlier this week saying as a "good, kind, helpful and lovely boy".

In a statement released through Essex Police, they said: "We are so devastated by what has happened.

"We would like to thank everyone for their kind wishes and concern.

"However as a family we would like people to respect our privacy and allow us to grieve in peace."

Scores of well-wishers have donated to a GoFundMe.com fundraising page in his memory, which had raised more than £57,000 by Friday morning.
