A new chief inspector was announced in Hertsmere in February.

Clare Smith was tasked with leading the policing teams in the borough - a role she continues today.

She said working in Hertsmere was her "first choice", and came with 23 years of experience in the police.

Since her appointment, she has been regularly keeping her followers up to date with day-to-day policing activities in Hertsmere.

Meanwhile, a woman from Borehamwood was jailed for three years and two months after she rammed into a woman in a supermarket car park.

Lucy Turner, then 32, injured shop employee Danielle Wood at a Tesco car park in Rickmansworth.

Turner was the getaway driver in a blue Citroen after alcohol was stolen from the store.

A video of the getaway went viral on Facebook.

Turner pleaded guilty to causing serious injury by dangerous driving, two charges of theft, attempted theft, using a vehicle without insurance, driving while disqualified, failing to stop and failing to report a collision.

One of our most bizarre stories of the year also cropped up in February when a woman complained about a policeman knocking on her door to tick her off about her parking.

Sarah Lester, who lives in Bullhead Road, Borehamwood, was woken up at 1.30am on Saturday February 9, by an officer.

She "feared the worst" thinking something bad had happened to her family.

Instead, the policeman was there to talk about the way she had parked in School Lane, Bushey, earlier that evening - even though her car was now back on her driveway.

Speaking to this paper, Ms Lester said: "Words cannot describe the horror of waking up at that time and hearing the ringing and knocking. I was shaking and very upset. The officer could clearly see the car was on my drive. Why didn’t I get a ticket when it was parked in School Lane if he was so concerned? Surely this is not the correct procedure to wake up citizens in the night?

"It is unacceptable. They should have known the fright it could have caused me. It feels like an abuse of power." She logged a complaint with Hertfordshire Constabulary.
