A man was jailed in March after intentionally driving a car into a group of worshippers outside a Muslim community centre.

Martin Stokes, 25, of Lynton Close, Wembley, was jailed for five years after deliberately driving into the group in Cricklewood leaving three people injured.

In a separate case, a man who forced his elderly mother to fund his drug habit was sentenced.

Bernard Murray, 52, would threaten and attack his mother when she refused to give him money for his addiction.

Murray was sentenced to 20 months imprisonment suspended for two years for engaging in controlling and coercive behaviour in a family relationship, common assault and assault by beating between September 2018 and December 2018.

He was also ordered to attend a drug rehabilitation requirement programme for six months.

Meanwhile, people with cars that produce higher levels of harmful emissions found out they will pay more under a new parking permit scheme approved by Barnet Council’s environment committee in March.

The move created 13 price bands for residents’ permits based on their vehicle’s carbon dioxide emissions–up from just five bands.

In light hearted news this month a group of vets travelled to Cyprus to help a charity look after the stray cat population.

The team, led by vet and partner at Medivet Hendon, Dr Jerry Dunne, flew out to support local rescue group Friends of Larnaca Cats.
