A group of residents said in July students and commuters were causing “intolerable” parking problems for people living on a town centre street.

People living in Prince of Wales Close, Hendon, claimed parking spaces that should be reserved for residents were being taken up by students at nearby Middlesex University and commuters from as far away as Luton.

It was also announced in July that a community police base would shut down due to ongoing cuts to the Metropolitan Police’s budget.

West Hendon Safer Neighbourhood Team’s (SNT) current base in Vivian Avenue, Hendon, closed at the end of the month.

Drivers found out they may have to stick to a 40mph limit at a busy roundabout near Barnet. Transport for London submitted an order which would see the A1 reduced from 50mph to 40mph on approaches to Stirling Corner.

The road is currently 50mph.

Also, during the month people may have seen flames from a burning aircraft filling the sky - but there was no need to panic as it was only a simulated crash.

Emergency services were at Elstree Aerodrome last Tuesday to test their skills responding to the unexpected, such as if a plane were to crash.
