A state-of-the art gym circuit and a system which detects if a swimmer is in trouble in a pool have been unveiled.
The new additions can be found at The Venue in Borehamwood and is thanks to a £173,000 grant from Hertsmere Borough Council.
The eGYM has been open for a couple of months already and is proving to be a hit with visitors.
Cllr Dr Harvey Cohen explains: "The eGYM is a really exciting way of keeping fit. It’s easy to use, convenient and perfect for people who would otherwise struggle to go for a run or find time to play team sport.
"If we can get more people active, especially the elderly and those who would otherwise struggle to exercise, it can help take pressure off existing services such as GP surgeries, hospitals and other healthcare providers."

The Poolview Plus anti-drowning system is an underwater video surveillance system which recognises when swimmers are in unsafe situations. It warns pool staff when a swimmer does not move or is in the drowning zone for a time critical period.
The system is set to be installed in the new year.
Both the eGYM and pool system have been made possible thanks to funding from the council's community infrastructure fund.
