Cycling enthusiasts are encouraged to take lead in the new Cycle Hub.

After Watford Borough Council invested £400,000 to expand Watford Cycle Hub by March, cyclists are encouraged by British Cycling to help lead bike rides around Watford.

As a leader, cyclists will hold structured programmes to guide beginners, families, and even experienced bike riders.

Anyone interested in becoming a cycling leader would take part in a free assessed one-day course on March 7 at Queens School, Bushey.

After completing the leadership award, ride leaders will receive free kit and a British Cycling Ride membership.

Elected Mayor of Watford Peter Taylor said: “The Cycle Hub do a great job in helping to promote cycling in our town and provide an invaluable service to people in Watford.

“I’m really pleased we are able to support them and provide them with new facilities opening soon.

“They have encouraged people of all ages and abilities to take up cycling, ranging from the very experienced to those who have never ridden a bicycle.

“I’d encourage anybody who is interested, to register and get involved – you won’t regret it.”

Director Kate Jenkins added “you don’t need to be a cycling expert or competitive racer”, with the only leader requirements being confidence and a good level of cycling fitness.

Ride leaders must have flexible weekend schedules to be committed in leading guided rides, the majority of which takes place on Sundays throughout the year.

The new cycling hub building which is launching in March will help deal with current demand, introduce a community café and social space, along with a larger workshop and office space.
