A private hospital has been rated ‘good’ by the national watchdog for care provision.

Spire London East Hospital, operated by Spire Healthcare Group, was given the second highest possible rating by the Care Quality Commission following an inspection in November last year.

The hospital, in Roding Lane South, Ilford, was rated ‘good’ in four of five inspection criteria and ‘outstanding’ in the ‘caring’ criteria.

The hospital was previously rated ‘requires improvement’ in 2016.

Adrian Brady, Hospital Director at Spire London East, said: “Our dedicated staff have worked extremely hard to earn this upgrade and we are all delighted that our efforts have been recognised by the inspectors. Our aim is to build on our success and achieve an ‘outstanding’ rating, when the inspectors next visit.”

In a report published on February 11, CQC inspectors praised staff for treating treat patients with compassion and kindness and respecting their privacy and dignity.

Inspectors wrote: “During the inspection we saw staff on the surgery ward treating patients with dignity, kindness, compassion, courtesy, and respect.

“Patients and family members spoke very positively about the care they received, and how they were treated by the staff on the wards.”

The hospital, which has 27 beds, was further praised for its control of infection risks.

Inspectors wrote: “We observed good hand hygiene practices in place across surgical wards… Since the last inspection the hospital has reviewed practice in this area and improved the processes in line with best practice.”

Hospital leadership was praised for being open and receptive.

Inspectors said: “Staff we spoke with stated that the senior leadership team was visible on the wards and were approachable to all staff, operating an ‘open door’ policy. Staff we spoke with told us that there was a no blame culture, and that they felt valued and respected.”
