A major road out of Borehamwood has shut again for the second time in less than a month.
Allum Lane is closed between between Elstree & Borehamwood station and the Asda petrol station.
However, at 10.30am today, the bridge was open to drivers travelling in the other direction.
Hertfordshire County Council granted Cadent Gas a permit of until March 2, according to roadworks information site One Network - however county councillor Caroline Clapper has posted on Facebook that the road is expected to fully reopen later today - hopefully by rush hour.
Barriers are up on one side of the road, and according One Network, Cadent Gas has been called to a gas mains escape.
This is what is causing the Allum Lane closure
Most drivers appear to be diverting via Furzehill Road and Barnet Lane, making these routes busier. Buses are also diverting along these routes.
Although there are 'road closed ahead' signs at the junction of Elstree Hill and Allum Lane, as of 10.30am today, Allum Lane was open all the way into Borehamwood town centre - but this could change.
The road is open currently if you're heading into Borehamwood. This is subject to change
This incident is the second time the railway bridge in Allum Lane has been shut - Affinity Water closed the road for a period of time at the end of January due to a burst water main.
