The Royal Air Force museum has closed it doors to the public following the coronavirus outbreak.

The museum, which has two public sites in Barnet and Cosford, says it closed at 6pm yesterday following the announcement of new Government recommendations.

This includes advising people against going to gatherings and crowded places, such as pubs, clubs and theatres.

The museum says it could be closed at least until May 1, 2020.

It says any events that were meant to happen during that period have also been cancelled.

A spokesperson for the museum said: "In the light of Government recommendations regarding the Coronavirus/COVID.19 outbreak, the RAF Museum has closed its public sites at London and Cosford to the public. This includes cancellation of any events in that period.

"The closure period will be at least until Friday May 1 2020.

"Until then, our Business Continuity Team have put in place systems which will enable the Museum to continue our business operations with staff working from home and accessible by email or mobile.

"We will also share updates on plans for re-opening through our website and social media channels."
