There have been plenty of local examples of why Boris Johnson has deemed it essential to write to every UK household urging the public to obey the lockdown.

As the Prime Minister stresses the need to stay indoors to slow the spread of coronavirus, we've picked out six examples of people in Bradford and surrounding areas flouting the rules.

Happily, the vast majority of people have taken note of the warnings, leading to pictures of empty Bradford streets, but there have been notable exceptions.

1: Wheelie silly

A group of motorcyclists left onlookers stunned and outraged as they took advantage of the unusually-quiet traffic conditions on a main road in Bradford to pull 'ludicrous' wheelies.

The group blasted under the Dudley Hill underpass, travelling from the direction of Tong Street and down Wakefield Road, towards the city centre.

2: Camp fire crew

A group of youths have come in for fierce criticism after meeting up round a camp fire and enjoying a barbecue today - in defiance of strict Government guidance on social distancing.

The youths fled when police arrived on the scene in Hipperholme, near Brighouse.

3: Stupidity on the swings

A group of youths were caught on camera playing on the swings at Lister Park, Manningham, breaking the recognised advice.

They came in for fierce criticism from experts.

4: Mob madness

A shocking image emerged of a group of youths brazenly flouting coronavirus lockdown rules in Bradford.

A Telegraph & Argus reader snapped the picture in Great Horton, branding their actions “disgusting” as they blasted music around the streets.

5: Shisha gathering

A group of friends were discovered in a beauty spot - having broken social distancing ban for a Shisha.

More than half a dozen people were taking part in a picnic, smoking shisha pipes and eating kebabs when they were approached by cops, who gave them a stern warning and sent them home.

The individuals (pictured below) had travelled hundreds of miles from Manchester, Sheffield and Ipswich to meet at Snake Pass in the Peak District.

Earlier this week, there were also reports of people travelling to the Cow and Calf rocks in Ilkley for picnics, although Bradfield Council has since cordoned off car parks at a number of beauty spots.

6: A 'fine' day at the seaside

A duo from our county were among the first in the UK to be hit with fixed penalty notices under the HP (Coronavirus) Regulations.

The fines were issued to two people from West Yorkshire after they were stopped by police in Blackpool. These fines are considered a last resort by police
