An art gallery is calling on artists to submit paintings or drawings of NHS heroes who are working through the coronavirus pandemic.

Esther Murphy, who launched The Sinclair Gallery in Rickmansworth last year, hopes to turn her gallery window into a tribute board for NHS workers.

She was inspired by the Clap for Our Carers event last Thursday evening (March 26) - where hundreds of thousands of people across the country stood outside their homes to applaud health staff.

Ms Murphy is now asking people of all ages and all artistic abilities to email her drawings or paintings of key workers. She will then print off the pieces and display them on her window.

She said: "At first, I was going to put a new painting up in the window everyday but no one is out there to see, but emergency workers are still going to work.

"Hopefully the window will catch workers' eyes as they walk by and it will give people in isolation something to do."

She added: "I will put them all on my window, I don't care how good or bad they are, and I will put messages on there too from people in the community."

Ms Murphy said she will include posters or contact information for people wanting to help others in the area.

Towards the end of the crisis, Ms Murphy hopes to put on an exhibition to raise money for charity.

She added: "Money from the exhibition could go back to the NHS or a local charity that has been doing something for the crisis."

The art gallery owner said she is working on creating online art lessons for those who are self-isolating.
