A further 41 coronavirus patients being cared for by Barts Health NHS Trust have died.

The latest deaths, confirmed by NHS England today, takes the total death toll at the trust which runs Whipps Cross Hospital to 120.

The deaths occured between March 26 and April 3, according to NHS England.

Barking, Havering, and Redbridge University Hospitals NHS Trust, which runs King George Hospital in Ilford, recorded 23 deaths in the lastest update, bringing the trust's death toll to 36.

Daily death counts are revised each day, with each case backdated to the actual date of death.

This means some of the deaths that were first recorded in the last 24 hours may actually have taken place days earlier.

NHS England guidance states: "Confirmation of COVID-19 diagnosis, death notification and reporting in central figures can take up to several days and the hospitals providing the data are under significant operational pressure."

Across the UK, a further 555 people who tested positive have died, bringing the total number of confirmed reported deaths in hospitals in England to 4,494.

Of the newly confirmed deaths, patients were aged between 33 years and 103 years old.

Some 29 patients had no known underlying health conditions.
