Two clubs have donated funds to help a foodbank buy essential items for people in need during the coronavirus pandemic.
The Harpenden Lions Club and St Albans Lions Club have joined forces to bring together their funds to help the St Albans and District Foodbank.
So far, the service organisation has donated £500 to the foodbank.
It received the funding from the Lion Clubs Foundation of the British Isles which was given to the clubs to support the community during the Covid-19 crisis.
The club in Harpenden has also set up a fundraising appeal to raise a further £2500 for the foodbank by May 10.
A trustee of the foodbank John Mulholland said: "We are extremely grateful to Harpenden and St Albans Lions Clubs for thinking of us at this time of crisis.
"In the last few weeks the call on our help has skyrocketed. In the week starting April 6, we fed as many people as we normally do in a month and indications are that the demand is unlikely to lessen for some time.
"Your donations will assist in purchasing essential items for distribution to those in need and helping with the costs incurred in keeping the foodbank operational."
