A housing developer has called upon its contractors to help donate personal protective equipment (PPE) to staff at Watford General Hospital.

Watford-based developer Barratt and David Wilson Homes said it has already provided 52 protective masks to hospital staff.

It also asked its contractors to help with the donations, which included financial contributions, 800 face masks, 50 face visors and hand sanitsers.

Donations will be distributed across the West Herts Hospital Trust and any items hospitals cannot take will be given to care homes in Watford.

Head of commercial at Barratt and David Wilson Homes, Antonios Castro, said: "As a company local to the West Herts Hospital Trust, we rely on the local heroes that put themselves at risk every day, to keep us well and care for us when in need.

"Therefore, as part of this community, it pains us to hear of the tragic events that hospitals such as Watford General, is having to endure on a daily basis.

“Businesses such as ours need to do their part in fundraising and sourcing supplies to be donated to the organisations within the trust.

"We’ve asked our contractors to help us with this support and have been overwhelmed with the response.

"This is something that also sits right at home for me, as my partner is one of these local heroes at Watford General, risking her life in Covid-19 wards on a daily basis."
