A MEMBER of the public made an interesting discovery when they were walking along the Leeds-Liverpool Canal on Bank Holiday Monday.
Marten Gadd spotted a crocodile basking in the sunshine near the water, as he walked along the canal, near Apperley Bridge, earlier today.
The reptile was perched on a concrete ramp leading out of the canal, just opposite the Apperley Bridge Marina.
Its mouth was opened wide in a menacing manner.
Mr Gadd shared a picture of the croc in a community group on social media website, Facebook.
He said: "Wildlife certainly making a comeback on the canal."
The post sparked much debate, with the main discussion focusing on whether it was real or not.
Some asked: "Is this for real?"
While another commenter said: "You can tell its fake."
Another person said the sight of the croc had made them jump when they were out running along the canal.
One commenter posed the idea that someone had put the reptile there so they could record people's reactions.
