People in Watford are being asked to step forward and further help support the town’s charities providing essential help to those in need during the coronavirus pandemic.

The Watford Covid-19 appeal has raised more than £140,000 for the town’s good causes through a number of fundraising initiatives including the Big Bold Community Quiz hosted by Mayor Peter Taylor and Watford FC legend Luther Blissett.

The Walk for Watford Challenge has now been launched where residents can cover a distance from 0.5 miles to 50 miles or more and do their bit to support the appeal.

The challenge has been devised to be as accessible and easy for as many people as possible to complete, with a target of walking a mile around Watford and raise £5 for the Covid-19 appeal.

Participants are being encouraged to post a photo of their walk on social media, tag in @WatfordCouncil and nominate five friends or family members to also take part.

Watford Observer:

Mr Taylor said: “These have been incredibly tough times and our charities are doing an amazing job supporting those in need. By getting involved in our fundraising efforts or donating, you are helping local charities to continue with the vital help they are giving residents.

“They need our supports so that they can help people who are bereaved and lonely, people suffering from domestic abuse, the homeless and many more in our town who have fallen on hard times due to the pandemic.”

The Watford Covid-19 appeal is aiming to raise at least £250,000 and other fundraising ideas include ‘Hair-Raising Home Cuts’, ‘Run Around Your Garden’ and the ‘Do Your Own 5k Challenge’. You can find out more at watfordcovidappeal.org/fundraising
