Vandals targeted a Harrow MP’s office by spray painting the words “racist coward” and “bigot” across its front windows.

Police were alerted to the incident at the Harrow West Labour Party office, in Blenheim Road, Harrow, which is shared by Harrow West MP, Gareth Thomas, and London Assembly Member Navin Shah.

The perpetrators had scrawled the words “racist coward, Gareth Thomas, bigot coward” in paint across the office’s front.

Mr Thomas said he was “obviously disappointed” at what had happened and that additional security measures were being reviewed.

He said: “I am grateful for the many messages of support and remain determined to continue to support the people of Harrow at what is a particularly difficult time for too many.

“I continue to be very proud to represent one of the most diverse constituencies in the UK and continue to have good relationships with all faiths and communities.”

Mr Shah criticised the “disgusting graffiti” daubed across the office and described those behind it as “despicable”.

He tweeted support for Mr Thomas, noting that he is “known for championing diversity, fighting racism and discrimination”.

The graffiti was cleared up by Harrow Council’s street cleaning teams last night, who said it took four hours to remove.

A spokesperson for the council said: “(This is) completely unacceptable and not welcome in Harrow.

“Whatever the issue, we will always have different opinions and there is nothing wrong with that.

“What is unacceptable is when people air their frustrations by damaging property.”

Police are investigating the incident – anyone with any information should contact them on 101.
