People will now be able to visit loved ones they have lost every day after restrictions were lifted on opening hours at a cemetery.

Hertsmere Borough Council has confirmed the gates at the cemetery in Allum Lane in Elstree will be open to members of the public throughout the week.

The council said: "Allum Lane Cemetery is now open to visitors between 9am and 5pm every day of the week.

"We just ask you adhere to social distancing measures and refrain from visiting graves whilst funerals are taking place in the same section.

"We're working hard to ensure burials are conducted with dignity and respect throughout this difficult period.

"Thank you for your co-operation."

The council decided to close the cemetery in March to all visitors for health and safety reasons relating to the pandemic.

However, funerals and burials were still allowed to take place, but with less people in attendance.

Towards the end of April, the cemetery was opened at weekends, and now in early July, it has reopened every day.
