THE Forge car park in Stockton Heath is set to be upgraded thanks to a £750,000 refurbishment.

Warrington Borough Council is considering a range of improvements the to site, off Egerton Street, including resurfacing, new signage and removing the toilet block.

Additional land will also be acquired to creating an additional 24 parking spaces, plus six extra disabled parking bays.

There could also be new drainage, CCTV, lighting and pay and display machines.

Funding has already been identified for the project, which will need to come before the cabinet for approval on September 14.

Member for highways, transportation and public realm, cllr Hans Mundry, explained: "We recognise that The Forge car park – which is exceptionally well-used by local people - has been in need of major refurbishment for many years.

"While we regularly carry out essential repairs at the site, this does not provide a long term solution.

"I’m pleased that, working with the community, we have identified a way forward.

"These plans would enable us to upgrade and modernise the car park, ensuring it remains a safe, sustainable and accessible site which is well-equipped to serve the busy Stockton Heath district centre."

Meanwhile, emergency repairs will be carried out to fill in a number of potholes on the main access routes to the car park, particularly from West Avenue.
