Police have released a third man without charges, who was suspected to be involved in Islamist-extremist-motivated offences.

Officers from the Met Police Counter Terrorism Command worked with the East Midlands Counter Terrorism Police to arrest four men in east London and Leicestershire on suspicion of being concerned with the commission, preparation or instigation of acts of terrorism.

A man, 31, who was arrested in an east London address was released yesterday (July 20) without charge.

Police previously released two of the others arrested including a teenager, 17, in an east London address and a man, 32, in a Leicestershire address.

But a man, 27, from a separate east London address remains at custody in a south London station after a warrant was obtained to detain him until Thursday (July 23).

The arrests in east London were carried out with the support of armed officers. No shots were fired, although one of the males, aged 27, was bitten on the foot by a police dog.

He was subsequently treated for injuries at a hospital.

Officers from East Midlands Counter Terrorism Policing and Leicestershire Police also assisted in the arrest in Leicestershire and no armed officers were present for that arrest.

Metropolitan Police say officers have completed searches at four addresses in east and south London and two in Leicestershire – while police enquiries continue.
