Barnet’s annual council meeting has been postponed after the councillor who was due to be sworn in as the borough’s new mayor became unwell.

Cllr Brian Gordon, who represents Edgware for the Conservative group, was due to be made Mayor of Barnet at the full council meeting originally scheduled for Tuesday (September 8).

But a council spokesperson confirmed the meeting had been postponed and Cllr Caroline Stock will remain mayor until it can be held.

The annual council meeting was also due to feature appointments to committees and outside bodies, along with several officer reports.

A Barnet Council spokesperson said: “Unfortunately, mayor designate Cllr Brian Gordon is unwell, and the council has taken the difficult decision to postpone the annual council. We send our best wishes to Cllr Gordon and his family at this time.

“The current mayor, Cllr Caroline Stock, will be remaining mayor until such a time that an annual council is held. All appointments to committees and outside bodies will also carry forward until the rescheduled annual council meeting takes place.”
