BELIEVE it or not, Tuesday was Car Free Day, though judging by the traffic jam stretching nearly the entire length of Bushey Mill Lane, the bold initiative promoted by Transport for London was lost on drivers locally.
However, this year TfL is extending the scheme throughout the whole month. TfL's vision is a town not clogged up by traffic, where it is safe to walk and cycle as it asks us to 'reimagine a town that is car-free and how much healthier life would be - whether it’s switching
to cycling; the school run; walking part of your commute, or adding weekend walks with friends. There's still time to make a change.
Get involved to help clean up our town's air and get more active by swapping the car for walking or cycling if you can:
Get the kids to cycle the school run
Extend your workout by walking or cycling to the gym instead
Get off the Tube early and walk part of your commute
Add in a mindful walk on your lunch break
Explore the city on a Beryl bike
Consider using the River Bus if you live or work near a pier – you can also bring your bike on board
If you want to get back on your wheels, take TfL's free online Cycle Skills course.
