Artistic director of Watford Palace Theatre, Brigid Larmour said: "Across the world at 8pm UK time, communities will see their theatres and events buildings illuminated red.

"We are joining together with theatre and event professionals from thousands of cities in more than 20 countries to stand as one, passing the baton across the time zones."

Ms Larmour spoke to the Observer in July and said she was "remaining positive" about the theatre despite it being forced to close during the pandemic.

The theatre has recently had to postpone its pantomime production for this year but said it will be reopening for Christmas.

Ms Larmour explained there will be a season of festive films and solo shows taking place at the theatre in December.

Customers will be able to book their own bubble and will be at distance from others during their visit.
