Three testing centres have opened across Barnet for people with no Covid symptoms.

The centres offer free rapid tests capable of telling a person if they have coronavirus around 45 minutes after they take the test.

The Q&A below will tell you everything you need to know about the new rapid test centres across the borough.

Who is eligible for a rapid Covid test?

Anyone over the age of 12, and you do not have to have Covid symptoms.

However, you should only be getting a rapid test if you have to leave home to go to work or school.

Key workers such as health staff, teachers, emergency services, delivery drivers, and supermarket staff are being prioritised for rapid testing.

Do not book a rapid test if you have Covid symptoms - a high temperature, new continuous cough, loss or change to sense of smell or taste.

Anyone with Covid symptoms must book a test though the government website via this link.

Where are the rapid Covid testing centres in Barnet and when are they open?

The three new centres are open daily between 9am and 6pm.

The centres are listed below.

  • Colindale Library: 7 Bristol Avenue, NW9 4BRExternal link
  • Hendon Leisure Centre: Marble Drive, London NW2 1XQExternal link
  • Burnt Oak Leisure Centre: Watling Ave, Edgware HA8 0NP

How do I book a rapid Covid test?

On Barnet Council's website via this link.

What will happen at the testing centre?

It will be a walk-through appointment and you will take a swab of your throat and nose yourself.

Staff will be on hand for guidance.

Once the test is complete, you will be given a barcode and you will need to register your details and this barcode number on the NHS Test & Trace website.

You will be asked to provide a UK mobile number and valid email address for your test results to be sent to you later that day.

You will receive your result approximately 45 minutes after the test if taken. You will receive a positive result if you are infectious with Covid at the time the test is taken.

If you receive a positive test result, you must self-isolate and book a PCR test via the government website to confirm your positive result.

If you return a negative PCR result, you will still need to follow government guidelines.

You must wear a face covering at any Covid testing centre you visit.
